Fall 2025 Classes
Please note: BHLC is not a drop-off program. All families will be required to remain on-site and complete a volunteer job, which typically involves assisting in a class.
For Fall Semester, BHLC will offer a ten-week session of in-person classes at a Lexington park on Mondays.
The dates for the 10-week in-person classes are as follows:
9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29
10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27
11/3, 11/10
Registration begins Monday, 8/11 for members and Wednesday, 8/13 for new members.
A note on Covid-19 precautions
Two of BHLC's core values are inclusivity and compassion. As such, we strive to create an environment that meets the needs of our students and volunteer teachers. While the official public health emergency provisions surrounding COVID-19 have ended, COVID remains an ongoing health risk that impacts the participation of some families. For this reason, BHLC has decided to continue two-way masking in classes and at the sign-in pavilion. Unless otherwise indicated, masking will be optional at other times, including after classes, on the playground, at events, in clubs, and on field trips.

11:00am-12:00pm
K-1st: Animal Adventures, taught by Ashley S. {$40}
Join us for a fun and engaging zoology class! Each week we’ll explore animals from around the world and their habitats. We’ll learn about their classifications, diets, behavior and characteristics through books, crafts, games and sensory learning activities.
**During second hour (12:30pm- 1:30pm) Animal Adventures families are encouraged to stick around for free play and activities on the playground and adjacent field to get their wiggles out and have uninstructed social time with friends! We ask that parents be present to help supervise free play during this time.
2nd-4th: Fun with Physics, team taught. {$40}
From light and lasers to force and friction, physics has all the topics that matter most. Bring your best energy to this hands-on exploration of one of the most stellar branches of science!
5th-7th: Game Makers: Let’s make a board game, taught by Nora K. {$40}
Welcome to Game Makers, where creativity meets strategy and collaboration fuels innovation! In this hands-on, project-based class, students will plan, design, and build a complete board game from scratch. Working together as a team, students will explore the fundamentals of game mechanics, storytelling, visual design, prototyping, and playtesting.
Collaboration is at the heart of game design. Students will work together to solve problems, give and receive constructive feedback, and manage the creative process from idea to finished product. By the end of this course, students will not only create a fully developed board game but also gain valuable experience in teamwork, creative thinking, and real-world project development. At the end of the semester, families will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the game created by the students!
Registration for this class is now closed. Contact us to be added to a waitlist. 6th-12th: Ukulele Jam, taught by Maria G. {$40}
Have you ever wanted to learn to play an instrument but been intimidated at the prospect of where to begin? Well, here is your opportunity to get started strumming! Ukulele is great whether you’re a complete musical beginner or an established musician wanting to add a cheery, portable instrument to your skill set.
In this class we will start with the basics, from the history of this iconic Pacific Island instrument to a taste of the music theory that holds the melody and chords together. You’ll learn how to hold and tune your ukulele, play chords, and maybe even pick out a few tunes!
Every week we’ll end with a jam circle where you can play along with your classmates in a relaxed atmosphere. This will be the perfect opportunity to show off anything you’ve learned on your own throughout the week, get tips, practice strumming, and just have fun!
For students who do not yet have a soprano ukulele, Maria can offer recommendations at various price points and BHLC will order some beginner ukuleles at a discounted rate of $35 for any families that would like to purchase them.
8th-12th: Creative Writing, taught by Beth B. {$40}
In this class we will work on expanding our approach to composition, learn new techniques and styles of writing, and dive deeper into things that we are curious about. Students will have lots of creative freedom while also learning new skills.
We will tackle a wide variety of projects and approaches, from blackout poetry to short stories, and letter writing to news articles.
The goal for this class is for everyone to improve their writing and learn more about themselves and the world around them.
12:30pm-1:30pm
K-1st: Parent Supervised Play. {$0}
No formal class this hour but families with children in this age range are invited to free play and social time on the playground.
2nd-4th Game On! Recess and Campfire Favorites, taught by Julianne J. {$40}
Come join us for a class full of classic games and fun! We'll spend our time playing active outdoor games like four square and capture the flag where you can run, jump, and strategize with your friends. We'll also get together for some awesome campfire-style games like poison dart frog and mimic, where we'll use our imaginations and have plenty of laughs.
Whether you want to run around outside or sit and play a silly game, this class has something for everyone. Get ready to play!
5th-7th: The Science of Survival, taught by Hannah H. {$40}
Whether you’re hiking outside on a cold day or suddenly coping with an unexpected emergency, knowing what to do can make a big difference in the outcome. In this class we will learn not only the hows but also the whys of the 10 wilderness essentials.
We will navigate the workings of compasses, plumb the depths of water sources, take shelter from the elements, and kindle an interest in firecraft. We will also practice signalling with mirrors and sound, experiment with tools, and even learn a little first aid (though hopefully NOT in any sort of related events).
Staying safe in the great outdoors is more than just know-how, it’s also a mindset. Each week as we build our skills we will also grow our overall resilience and capacity to avoid many problems and handle others – both in the wilderness and our day-to-day lives.
8th-12th: Hygge Hour: A Cozy Social & Creative Space, taught by Nora K. {$40}
