Spring 2026 Classes
Please note: BHLC is not a drop-off program. All families will be required to remain on-site and complete a volunteer job, which typically involves assisting in a class.
For Spring Semester, BHLC will offer a ten-week session of in-person classes at a Lexington park on Mondays.
The dates for the 10-week in-person classes are as follows:
3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30
4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27
5/4, 5/11
Registration begins Monday, 2/16 for members and Wednesday, 2/18 for new members.
A note on Covid-19 precautions
Two of BHLC's core values are inclusivity and compassion. As such, we strive to create an environment that meets the needs of our students and volunteer teachers. While the official public health emergency provisions surrounding COVID-19 have ended, COVID remains an ongoing health risk that impacts the participation of some families. For this reason, BHLC has decided to continue two-way masking in classes and at the sign-in pavilion. Unless otherwise indicated, masking will be optional at other times, including after classes, on the playground, at events, in clubs, and on field trips.

11:00am-12:00pm
K-1st: STEM LEGO Lab, taught by Sarah F and Ashley S. {$40}
Join us during the first class period for a fun and engaging weekly STEM class! Students will explore the engineering process by tackling fun and challenging building projects using LEGO! Each week they will design, build, and test structures, fostering teamwork and strengthening STEM skills.
**During the second hour (12:30pm- 1:30 p.m.) LEGO lab families are encouraged to stick around for free play and activities on the playground and adjacent field to get their wiggles out and have uninstructed social time with friends! We ask that parents be present to help supervise free play during this hour.
2nd-5th: Adventures with Skunk & Badger, taught by Maria G. {$40}
This class will be a multidisciplinary romp through Amy Timberlake’s delightful book ‘Skunk and Badger.’ We will get to join our two title characters in a weekly read aloud as they foray into an unlikely friendship. As we get to know Skunk and Badger, we will explore them and their interests and dive down a variety of rabbit, that is, skunk and badger holes. Important Rock Work, mustelid biology, onomatopoeia, chickens, brownstone architecture, and ukuleles are just a few of the many topics we will have the opportunity to delve into this spring. You’ll want to catch every word of this wonderful book, so if you are going to miss any weeks I highly recommend having a copy of your own at home to contemplate and laugh over.
**During the second hour (12:30pm- 1:30 p.m.) Adventure families are encouraged to stick around for free play and activities on the playground and adjacent field to get their wiggles out and have uninstructed social time with friends! We ask that parents be present to help supervise free play during this hour.
6th-12th: Art as Activism, taught by Hannah H. {$40}
The arts are woven throughout history, often as a tool of change. From satire, to exposure, to calls to action, art has always been used to protest and inspire, especially by people denied access to more direct levers of power. Each week we’ll explore different mediums and techniques, learn about artists who used them and the historical context for their work, before trying our hand at them too. Over the course of the semester, students are welcome to develop and share personal projects related to the causes that are important to them.
12:30pm-1:30pm
K-4th: Parent Supervised Play. {$0}
No formal class this hour but families with children in this age range are invited to free play and social time on the playground.
5th-8th Garden Science, taught by Hannah H. {$40}
Starting from the literal ground up, students in this class will learn step-by-step how to create and nurture a home vegetable garden, exploring key science concepts along the way. We will dig into not only the hows but the whys of gardening from a practical, ecological, and even philosophical perspective. By the end of class, students will have their own selection of plants and seeds to take home and plant or share with others.
8th-12th: Gather Round, taught by Julia A and Jake A. {$40}
Let’s get together to catch up on the news of the week, and for time and space to make new friends and connect with old ones. We will have supplies for crafting and unstructured conversation as well as the opportunity for moderated discussions, potential for friendly debates, and lots of learning together in a supportive environment. Come prepared with stories you’ve read or heard about, or come eager to explore. Newspapers will be provided.
