*CLASS IS FULL* Ages 8+ Theater {$35} Taught by Martha H.
I’m excited for our first dip back into in person theater! I want to help students continue to build strong acting skills while having fun. We will be mostly learning through improvisational theater games! These types of games are fun, which is our main ingredient, but they also teach valuable skills for theater actors including: fearlessness (how to make a mistake or things go wrong and recover in real time to progress the story in character), group cohesion/ensemble building (gets us excited as actors and thinking like a team), concentration (we all get bored sometimes and these games can help us recharge with fresh perspective and attention), and imagination (imagination is critical for creatives and theater games engage us in a way that brings out the “child” in all of us)! We will also work on monologues or group scenes from our favorite plays or musicals as well! Lastly we may even do some singing! I have missed that over ZOOM! So come prepared to learn as you play!
11:15am-12:15pm
*CLASS IS FULL* K-2nd Full S.T.E.A.M Ahead! {$35} Taught by: Shannon C., Celia T., Craig R., & Sarah F.
All aboard the S.T.E.A.M. train! This class will combine science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math to guide student inquiry, discussion, and problem-solving. Through various topics taught by a rotating team of parent volunteers, students will engage in hands-on activities and, most importantly, have tons of fun!
*CLASS IS FULL* 3rd-5th Tell Me a Story: Introduction to Storytelling as Drama Performance {$35} Taught by: Amanda C.
In this class, we will:
Explore the art of storytelling as a tradition both locally (in our own families/communities) and historically.
Read and view performances of a selection of fairy tales from European, African, and Native American traditions.
Practice telling stories individually and in a group.
Adapt existing stories for dramatic performance.
Use good presentation skills, including vocal projection and gesture.
6th-8th Epic Historical Moments {$35} Taught by: Pete K.
This course will examine a series of pivotal historical events in American history. We will examine the socio-political context to these moments and how they tie into current events and trends. Some preparation/research time will be required each week for this course. While this course is a continuation of a course taught in the Fall semester, new students are welcome!
9th-12th The Art of Photography {$35} Taught by: Melissa R.
In this class, we will explore how to create compelling images with impact. Students will take A LOT of photographs, learn how to give and receive feedback from peers and the instructor, deepen their understanding of how their particular camera works, get comfortable with photo processing and editing, and become confident in their abilities to create compelling images. Melissa will tailor this class to the student's specific interests and ability levels. There will be ample opportunities for more in-depth learning and photography practice through materials provided in Google Classroom. Students will need to have access to a digital camera of some sort and bring it to class sessions.
12:15pm-1:00pm LUNCH
Parents are responsible for providing their families lunch and supervising their children during this time.
1:00pm-2:00pm
*CLASS IS FULL* K-2nd Step into a Story {$35} Taught by Heather T., Elizabeth S., & Shelly V.
Picture books are powerful tools for promoting literacy, fostering conversations, building vocabulary and language skills, inspiring visual thinking, and delivering fun! In each class session, students will read a picture book together and explore the themes and subjects of that book deeper through related activities, games, songs, and art. Led by a rotating team of parent volunteers, each class is sure to be a delight as students step into a story.
*CLASS IS FULL* 3rd-6th Basket Weaving {$35} Taught by Celia T.
In this basket weaving class for 3rd-6th graders, we’ll weave several small baskets with round reed and pre-drilled wooden bases. Our first basket will use a plain weave so everyone can learn the basics of weaving. We’ll use the same supplies in further baskets, but have a chance to learn different weaving patterns. The plan is to weave three small baskets, but this may change up or down, depending on how our baskets progress.
7th-12th Adventures in Astronomy {$35} Taught by Craig R.
In this class we will explore the universe! From the earth and it's solar system, to distant galaxies, all the way to the big bang, we will seek to understand the nature of the cosmos and our place in them. Major course learning objectives include developing an understanding of the overall structure of the universe, the nature of its major constituents (i.e., galaxies, stars, and planets), and the scientific processes used in the study of astronomy. Class sessions will be highly interactive and include many hands-on activities. The class will be led by Dr. Craig Rudick, who earned a PhD in Astronomy studying the evolution of galaxies.
