Fall 2026 Classes
Please note: BHLC is not a drop-off program. All families will be required to remain on-site and complete a volunteer job, which typically involves assisting in a class.
For Spring Semester, BHLC will offer a ten-week session of in-person classes at a Lexington park on Mondays.
The dates for the 10-week in-person classes are as follows:
9/10, 9/17, 9/24
10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
11/5, 11/12
In the event that a class day is cancelled (for example, due to extreme weather), we will meet on 11/19.
Registration begins Tuesday, 8/11 for members and Thursday, 8/13 for new members.
A note on Covid-19 precautions
Two of BHLC's core values are inclusivity and compassion. As such, we strive to create an environment that meets the needs of our students and volunteer teachers. While the official public health emergency provisions surrounding COVID-19 have ended, COVID remains an ongoing health risk that impacts the participation of some families. For this reason, BHLC has decided to continue two-way masking in classes and at the sign-in pavilion. Unless otherwise indicated, masking will be optional at other times, including after classes, on the playground, at events, in clubs, and on field trips.

Registration information for Fall 2026
Registration for the TODO semester begins Monday, February 16th, for current members and Wednesday, February 18th for new members. Registrations will be accepted beginning on those dates.

In-person 10 Week Classes
These classes will occur at a Lexington park. The location will be shared with participants upon registration. Classes begin the week of September 10th, 2026.

Pre-K-K: Play Circle, taught by Ashley S and Amandah H. {$20*}
Join us each week for story time, sensory play, art, music, and other fun games and activities with our littlest BHLC members.
*This class is open to new students for $20 and free for the younger siblings of BHLC members!
1st-5th: Globe Trotters, taught by Sarah F and Ashley S. {$40}
Join us each week as we take an imaginary trip to a new country and collect stamps on our passport from all around the world! In this interactive geography class we’ll be covering travel basics such as what to pack and how to get there, location and maps, daily life and culture from a kids perspective, food, language, as well as learning about local environments and weather from each of our destinations.
6th-12th: Whatever the Weather, taught by Hannah H. {$40}
In this class we will learn about the role of air, wind, and water in weather systems. We will build our own meteorological tools and develop the skills to make forecasts without the need for computers or fancy equipment. We will learn exactly what it means when clouds gather and how to stay safe through storms.
Although the focus of this class will be on understanding the scientific principles that govern weather and learning how to interpret forecasting models, as well as predict changes ourselves, we will also make time for some weather-related art and whimsy.

1st-5th: Art is History, taught by Maria G. {$40}
Art does not exist in a vacuum; it is made by humans. Humans who are experiencing a multifaceted, complex world. Therefore, their art reflects or emphasizes the culture, political climate, and geography of the people who make it. Art is History! We will be learning snippets of history and viewing pieces of art within that greater context spanning from ~1830 and the abolitionists of the Civil War all the way to Armstrong walking on the moon in 1969.
Along the way we will be noting similarities and differences in various art movements, exploring pointillism, Japanese woodcuts, pop art, and more. We will also be creating our own works of art based on styles we study in class as we learn how to express ourselves through movement of brushstrokes, color theory, and even sculpture! By the end of the semester each student will have a tangible timeline of their own stroll though art and the humanity of history.
6th-12th Theater Lab, taught by Julia A. {$40}
This will be a two-semester class. During the Fall semester, students will work together to decide on a story. We will learn about the process of writing and editing plays, the difference between writing a story and a script, and all the moving parts in theater, including, but not limited to actors, directors, writers, set designers, and costumers. The majority of the semester will be dedicated to writing and editing a play, which will be staged, rehearsed, and performed during the spring semester.
